We have email, chat, webhosting, and a forge, another useful thing to host could be photo-backup-services.

Alternatives:

Ente (https://github.com/ente-io/ente)
- on-device AI
- E2EE
- AGPL
Immich (https://immich.app/)
- Biggest community
- NOT e2ee
- lots of ai features
- AGPL
- Nagware ($99 lifetime to shut it up) - or ig we can maintain a patch
Nextcloud Memories (https://memories.gallery/)
- Optional E2EE encryption
  - Room for user-error
- Bad AI features
- We're going to have nextcloud anyways..

Having something E2EE would be nice, our culture isn't amazing for privacy. Even if drift is good about it today, it doesn't mean the next set of drift people would be as respectful.

One could argue this is similar to hosting e-mail (not encrypted), and the home-areas in general. But those are nowadays used mostly for directly PVV-related content, or by old members who are hopefully aware of the nuances of PVV-drift's access to it.

A photo-backup-service is a much more all-encompassing thing to use, the intended way is for it to upload the entire photo-gallery of your phone. It's also much more "casual user"-facing than home-directories.

når vi er 50 år gamle ligger alle bildene av familien vår på pvv infraen, og en gjeng med studenter stresser med å ikke miste enda mer data
